Our Sustainability Journey
At Simplyfruit, sustainability is more than a commitment. It is about taking meaningful action to reduce our environmental impact, make better use of resources and continually improve how we operate. From investing in renewable energy and recovering heat to reducing packaging and finding innovative uses for fruit off-cuts, we are focused on practical improvements that make a measurable difference.
Harnessing the Power of the Sun
Our solar installation features 612 panels with a combined capacity of approximately 272 kW, generating renewable electricity directly at our production facility. Since the system started operating on 20 January 2026, it has generated more than 184,000 kWh of electricity, with over 99% used on site. Based on monitoring data to 27 October 2026, this is equivalent to an annualised generation rate of approximately 240,000 kWh and estimated annualised carbon savings of 96 tonnes of CO₂. These annualised figures are indicative and will vary with seasonal sunlight.
Solar performance at a glance
Making Every Unit of Energy Count
We monitor energy use across our factory to identify abnormal consumption and assess the impact of efficiency improvements. Through investment in power factor correction and voltage optimisation technology, we have improved electrical efficiency and maximised the use of our available power capacity. A 40 kW heat exchanger recovers heat from our refrigeration compressors and uses it to preheat water for factory operations. By combining intelligent energy monitoring with improvements to our refrigeration and compressed-air systems, we continue to reduce unnecessary energy consumption while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and product quality.
Giving Fruit a Second Life
We have redesigned our production processes to separate fruit off-cuts by type, creating opportunities to keep valuable ingredients in use. Fruit off-cuts can be pressed to create a range of natural, pure juices. This approach turns a previously underused resource into a finished product and demonstrates how sustainability and innovation can work together.
Rethinking Packaging
We continually review the size and thickness of our plastic pots and trays, reducing the amount of material used wherever possible without compromising freshness, shelf life or food safety. We prioritise recycled PET packaging where possible and use cardboard boxes made from 100% recycled materials.
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our own production processes. The majority of the cardboard boxes in which our raw materials arrive are sold on to other food manufacturers, who reuse them to package their finished products.
By extending the life of existing packaging materials, we reduce waste, minimise the demand for new resources and support a more circular economy.
Looking Ahead: Smarter, More Sustainable Production
At Simplyfruit, we believe the future of sustainability lies in smarter, more precise decision-making. We are investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI), automation and real-time data collection to continually refine our processes, improve efficiency and minimise waste across every stage of production.
Our ambition is to move beyond measuring performance in tonnes and weeks, towards understanding our operations in grams and seconds. By capturing and analysing data at this level of detail, we can identify even the smallest inefficiencies, optimise raw material recovery, reduce energy consumption and make better use of our resources.
Small improvements, multiplied across millions of products, can make an extraordinary difference. For us, sustainability means continually finding smarter ways to do more with less.
